Information about Sydney's tollways -- including up-to-date toll charges, distances, and maps -- can be obtained from the Sydney Motorways site. Some Sydney motorways, such as the M7, use electronic tolling only. Melbourne and Brisbane e-tags will work on all Sydney motorways.
From the south (Hume freeway)
The quickest option is to stay on the freeway and follow the directions to the M7 tollway (e-tag only). Proceed north until the junction with the M4 freeway, then head left (west) towards Penrith and the Blue Mountains. Exit the freeway at Mulgoa Road, turn right and proceed north along Mulgoa Road to Jamison Road. The toll for this option is currently $6.15.
To avoid the toll, exit the Hume freeway at the Narellan Rd junction (near Campbelltown) and follow ringroad 9 (The Northern Road) through Narellan, Bringelly, Luddenham and Mulgoa, until its junction with the M4 freeway, then head west towards Penrith, as above. (Alternatively, proceed north along The Northern Road until the junction with Jamison Road, then turn left to proceed to Mulgoa Road.)
From the north (F3 freeway)
At the end of the F3 freeway, follow the directions for ringroad 7 (Cumberland Highway/Pennant Hills Road), then proceed south.
The quickest option is to use the M2 and M7 tollways (total toll around $8). Turn right at the M2 junction just north of Carlingford, then proceed west and south to the junction with the M4 freeway. Head west along the M4 until the Mulgoa Road exit.
To avoid the tolls, continue south along the Cumberland Highway/Ringroad 7 until the M4 junction at Wentworthville. Then proceed west, as above.
From the west
Proceed east along the Great Western Highway through the Blue Mountains until the start of the M4 freeway. Take the Mulgoa Road exit from the M4, turn left (north), and proceed as above.
