NACAA has a long tradition of enjoyable social functions throughout the weekend and there are plenty of opportunities for social interaction throughout the convention. The social events programme has been organised by the Local Organising Committee. Events can be booked when registering for NACAA.
Drinks and finger food to meet and mingle with conference attendees. First two drinks are included in the package. Subsequent drinks can be bought at the bar.
Semi-formal 3-course buffet dinner with guest speaker Dr Charles Lineweaver and the awarding of the Berenice Page Medal. Payment for beverages is on a consumption basis (i.e. pay as you drink).
Enjoy a tour of the Mt Stromlo Observatory site, followed by an informal catered BBQ with some drinks in the courtyard and Common Room of the Administration Building, the old Commonwealth Solar Observatory. A chance to see how the site has recovered from the 2003 bushfires, wind down at the end of a busy weekend, and get ready for the Monday workshops or excursions.
The Astral Award for best convention presentation will be presented, and the NACAA shield transferred to the next NACAA LOC.
Coach transport between the site and Rydges Capital Hill will be provided. Please fill in this form to indicate if you require transport, or can provide transport, to the BBQ.
The excursion will visit Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex at Tidbinbilla. CSIRO staff will conduct a tour around the facilities followed by lunch at the Moon Rock Cafe' (cost included) and time to wander through the spectacular Visitor's Centre. Departing Rydges Capital Hill at 8.30am and returning at approximately 2.30pm. Please note that this will clash with the TTSO4 event held on Monday. Please ensure you are not attending TTSO4 before you register for this event.
